Behind a ventilated metal facade: non-combustible mineral wool (Rockwool-type) where the fire strategy demands A1/A2 ratings, rigid boards where depth is tight, membranes and cavity barriers completing the line. Named products in a written specification — never “insulation TBC”.
Fire performance of the full build-up
Post-Grenfell, the question is not “is the panel combustible” but “is the build-up compliant”. We specify metal panels with non-combustible insulation and cavity barriers as the default on residential and commercial facades alike.

What insulation goes behind metal cladding?
Typically non-combustible mineral wool in the ventilated cavity, with rigid boards used where build-up depth is limited. We specify to the building's fire strategy and U-value target, in writing.
Is metal cladding with insulation fire safe?
A correctly specified build-up is: metal panel, non-combustible insulation, cavity barriers and membranes rated for the building type. This is the default we install, and the documentation goes to your building control or fire engineer as needed.
Can you add insulation behind existing cladding?
Sometimes — over-cladding with a new insulated rainscreen is often the better route than disturbing a failed facade. Survey establishes the viable option.
